Somizi Mhlongo gets tested for coronavirus and can’t believe the cost

- On arrival, he asked the price and was told it would be between R1 400 and R1 500
- Utterly shocked at the high price, Somizi expressed his concern for those who can't even afford to feed their families
Somizi Mhlongo is currently being tested for the coronavirus and cannot believe how expensive it is.
The coronavirus literally has the entire globe at a standstill and people are fearing for the absolute worst.
Briefly.co.za saw that Somizi checked into an unnamed private hospital today to be tested for the virus as he is experiencing symptoms.
Taking to social media with a short clip, Somizi expressed his concerns regarding the virus.
When Somizi entered the private hospital to be tested, he asked how much the testing would cost. When he was told that is it’s around R1 400 or R1 500, he was shocked.
Somizi could not help but think of those who are not even able to make ends meet let alone pay over R1 000 to protect their and others' lives.
In shock, Somizi asked the nurse what people who are unable to afford the testing should do. The nurse simple said that they are to go to government hospitals or clinics where it is more affordable.
Expressing his concern further, Somizi feels that government should relook at the cost of testing and reduce it drastically if not completely.
This is a global pandemic! People’s lives depend on the virus being contained and how does government expect it to be contained if testing for it costs more than some spend on food in an entire month?!
In other news, a Grade 9 pupil from the Western Cape is South Africa's first confirmed case of a child contracting the coronavirus.
TimesLIVE reports that the girl is a student at the United Herzlia School and has since gone into quarantine with her family.
