Eskom cuts off power supply to Soweto and Mzansi reacts: "Good job"
- According to the utility, the decision was due to failure of bill payments
- South Africans applauded the move, adding it was time Soweto residents started paying bills
On Wednesday, Twitter parody account Man's Not Barry Roux shared a photo showing Eskom employees cutting off the power supply to homes in Soweto.
He captioned the post:Eskom confirmed Man's Not Barry Roux's claims and gave the reasons why the power to Soweto is being cut off.
"Eskom is currently busy cutting electricity off for residents of Soweto. They demand to go into your house to check your meter, if you refuse they go to the pole and cut it off. If you not home, they just cut it off anyway."
South Africans welcomed the power utility's decision to cut off Soweto's electricity and force the residents to pay their bills.
Twitter user, @Hferrei85545680, commented:Earlier, Briefly.co.za reported Eskom warned Mzansi that load-shedding may be returning to cast a blanket of darkness over the streets of Mzansi tonight.
"This is the best thing the ANC has done since 1994."
Another tweep, @steynclan, added:
"Good. Pay like everyone else, or do without like everyone else."
While the power utility has yet to make the call an official one, it cautioned that a delay in maintenance could result in outages.
