Yolanda's family tells a different story: Her husband is abusive

Yolanda, the woman who was allegedly caught by her husband hiding under her boyfriend's bed, is trending on Twitter again - However, this time South Africans were not making fun of her with the #YolandaChallenge - Her family reportedly told her side of the story, claiming Yolanda was not cheating, she was hiding from an abusive spouse

On Tuesday, a video went viral showing a man allegedly finding his wife hiding under a bed, believed to belong to her 'side piece'. The unidentified husband filmed the confrontation and he was heard asking his wife, Yolanda, why she was hiding underneath another man's bed.

Briefly.co.za reported South Africans poked fun at the lady by recreating the footage in the viral #YolandaChallenge. However, on Friday, Yolanda trended on Twitter again and this time South Africans were feeling guilty for making fun of her. According to screenshots of messages alleged exchanged between her family members, Yolanda was not cheating, she was hiding from her "abusive" husband.

The messages indicated that the lady has allegedly suffered abuse at the hands of her husband for a couple of years and she went to the shack to hide from him. One of the messages even claimed Yolanda's husband stabbed her, "but because of money, she was forced to point to a Nyaope boy".

The family's claims had South Africans hanging their heads in shame. Social media users apologised to Yolanda for making her the butt of jokes without knowing the entire story.

Senzeni Ndebele, who goes by the Twitter handle @senndebs, commented: "The nation owes #Yolanda an apology. She is an abused woman who has now been humiliated by her abuser. Very sad. The Facebook comments on her abuse are even worse."
