Royal Rolls-Royces: Swazi King splashes millions on whips for wives
eSwazitini King Mswati III has apparently splurged in a big way by purchasing a fleet of high-end luxury vehicles for his wives. A video of five Rolls-Royce Phantoms has gone viral because of it's ties to Africa’s last absolute monarch. The total estimated value for the impressive collection displayed stands at around R37 million, with stock models weighing it at around R7.4 million. The Citizen reports that a source in the nation's government has indeed confirmed that the whips in question had been delivered earlier this week.
While the source couldn't confirm the exact number of cars purchased, the King is blessed with a total of 14 wives. Briefly.co.za gathered that the monarch had recently come under fire when government employees clashed with police over wage equality and lower living costs. The King had been accused of blowing public funds on jet-setting abroad and events while salaries were affected, reports News24.
During the clashes, a civil servant had commented on the situation facing the citizens of the region: "King Mswati is not considerate of the plight of the people of the country. We are told that there is no money, the economy is in bad shape but he continues to take expensive trips abroad with his extended family and friends." With an estimated net worth of R2.8 billion, Mswati III still enjoys a R750 million annual salary paid by the government. In other words, the King enjoys a staggering R62.5 million a month at the expense of his nation.
